The Historic Wendover Airfield will be hosting their 2019 Air Show on Saturday, September 28th. Aviation, history, movies, and food lovers alike are guaranteed to enjoy this great event!
Both modern and vintage aircraft, military displays, Utah Military Vehicle Club and the Arizona Ground Crew WWII Living historians will be on display. Appearances from the Aerobic flying formation groups, GoPro “Bomb Squad” jump team are sure to dazzle the audiences too.
Wendover Field was conceived in 1930 and Congress officially approved the acquisition of the land for bombing and gun ranges in 1940. Wendover, Utah at the time was a town of only 103 people, with railroad lines running between Salt Lake City and three West Coast cities. The Army Air Corps began building structures on September 20, 1940, in Wendover. The total site was 18 to 36 miles wide and 86 miles long. The site was hailed as the largest bombing and gunnery range in the world and is still known as one of the biggest today.
The Airfield has served as a backdrop for several Hollywood productions. Some of these include Independence Day starring Will Smith, The Core starring Hilary Swank, The Hulk starring Jennifer Connelly and many, many more. Hollywood’s best films would be very different if it wasn’t for the vast, uninhabited and beautiful land in Wendover!
Food and drink vendors will be on the tarmac throughout the whole day, so come hungry! Families from all over are welcome to come, and don’t forget to bring a great pair of walking shoes, lawn chairs, sunglasses, sunscreen and a camera!
